The Way of Kings

So as part of my first official review I wanted to take the chance to do a review about my latest favorite book. I say latest because Brandon Sanderson has proven to me three different times that he can provide amazing books that I grow to love very quickly.

The Way of Kings starts out with a BANG! The book throws you right into the adventure with an assanation attempt on the King. Sanderson draws you into the scene with an amazing scripted scene. I read it multiple times and always was captivated by his writing style. As incredible as the first part of the story was I struggled to put down the book. Any where I went I had it in my hand ready for me to enjoy.

Brandon does an amazing job and drawing in his audience into several different plots threaded into the story with an even deeper storyline that has been masterfully weaved through out all of his works (except of the Alcatraz series.) If you worry about picking up his latest book because of the size I would say don't be afraid, you won't be let down. For those of you still worried about jumping straight into his books you can always go to his website and read Warbreaker.

The story revolves around Kaladin as the main character with flashbacks of the important parts of his life. Shallan and Dalinar are the other main view point characters that we get to see throughout the book. Sanderson jumped right into the action showing of the versatility of his magic system then slows it back down for the large majority of the rest of the book. You can tell he is using this book to "prime the pump" for the rest of the series.

With him needing to build the back story it did feel a bit slow in places, which I think the overall length of the book didn't help with that. One of Brandon's biggest strength continues to be his biggest weakness. He must put easter eggs through out his book in order to keep his true back back story of the cosmology of the cosmere without ruining the book.  I think it is a delicate balance that on this book seemed to contain more than any other book. Which left main fans awed but with more questions.  The long wait until the next book released could prove frustrating but the finale of the Wheel of Time is much more important at this point in time.

My favorite chapter that I've read and recommended to all my friends is "10 Heartbeats." I think this chapter shows the talented manner in which Brandon is able to bring you into his book. It's a must read for anyone wanting to find one of the most talented authors of this decade. Please make sure to checkout the amazing artwork inside of the book. It's very apparent TOR believes this book will be the next major series to follow up with the ending of The Wheel of Time.

First Blog Plost

For many months now I have contemplated starting a blog about the books I'm reading and throw some reviews out there. Obviously due to financial restraints I may choose to review some books that I currently own no matter how old they may be.  At least until I get to a point where publishers are willing to start sending me ARC copy of books. On top of my review of certain books you may see me publish some ideas I have had while writing my first book tentatively titled Ashes of Creation.  There is so much I've seen and learned as I go through this process. I'll attempt to post at least one update or review every 2 weeks, but then again November is going to be extremly difficult on me to hit that goal with NANOWRIMO going on. For those of you who don't understand what NANAWRIMO is; it is the month of November you push yourself to write 50,000 words in 30 days. Say goodbye sleep. I'll miss you but see you when I get done.  I hope you enjoy and please feel free to give me a shout out so I can start getting a following. I hope to gain your trust and respect in the way I will give reviews and opinions.  I'm very green at this, so please have patience and feel free to give me feedback.
